EPCE Industry Alliances
As a national industry coalition, part of EPCE’s role is to work in partnership with other initiatives in the energy industry. EPCE continually reaches out to important industry stakeholders to communicate about EPCE’s activities and to explore collaborative efforts.
As a result, EPCE works with a variety of industry organizations toward the same goal: to build a pipeline of skilled energy workers by effectively attracting and preparing the current and future workforce.
Some of the organizations EPCE works with include:
APPA
The American Public Power Association is the service organization for the nation's more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities that serve more than 43 million Americans. APPA has been a member of EPCE since 2002 and many of its member utilities’ employees are enrolled in EPCE’s online programs.
CEWD
The Center for Energy Workforce Development is a non-profit consortium of electric natural gas and nuclear utilities and their associations. CEWD was formed in 2006 to help utilities work together to develop solutions to the coming workforce shortage in the utility industry. EPCE is a strategic partner with CEWD.
IBEW
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers represents approximately 750,000 members who work in a wide variety of fields, including utilities construction, telecommunications, broadcasting, manufacturing, railroads and government. The IBEW has members in both the United States and Canada. It stands out as one of the largest of the American unions in the AFL-CIO. The utilities division has a strong interest in the industry’s workforce challenges, and as such demonstrates their support of EPCE.
NRECA
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association is the national service organization dedicated to representing the national interests of cooperative electric utilities and the consumers they serve. The NRECA Board of Directors oversees the association’s activities and consists of 47 members, one from each state in which there is an electric distribution cooperative. NRECA has been an active member of EPCE since 2001 and many of its member utilities’ employees are enrolled in EPCE’s online programs.
PES Career Collaborative
The PES Careers Collaborative is an effort is led by the Power & Engineering Society, a subsidiary organization of the IEEE. PES-Careers is uniquely designed to help students in the U.S. and Canada find a power engineering job or an internship, and to help employers to efficiently find the best candidates for those positions. The IEEE Power & Energy Society is a worldwide, non-profit association of more than 21,000 individuals engaged in electric power engineering.
UWUA
The Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO has over 50,000 members working in the electric, gas, water, and nuclear industries across the United States. The UWUA focuses on protecting utility jobs, wages, benefits, and working conditions with a variety of programs including safety and health training, legislative affairs, and benefits plans.
