Nuclear Power
What courses are available?
EPCE has co-developed with its education partners unique online technical courses in Nuclear Power. You can earn a certificate, AAS, or BS degree completely online.
- Certificate in Nuclear Power Technology
This program certificate, offered by Bismarck State College, provides the basics of nuclear power generation to prepare for careers in operations, maintenance, and other functions within nuclear power plants. - Associates in Applied Science in Nuclear Power Technology
This online AAS degree, offered by Bismarck State College, provides you with the skills and knowledge required for non-licensed operator, maintenance, chemistry, and health physics technician positions in nuclear generation stations. - Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology
This BS degree, offered by Excelsior College, is designed to prepare students to perform competently in occupational areas such as reactor operations, health physics, quality assurance, chemical technology, and instrumentation and control technology, as well as in related areas in the nuclear technology field.
NEI Nuclear Uniform Curriculum Program
Developed in collaboration with EPCE nuclear industry partners, the Nuclear Power Technology program is approved by the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI). The purpose of NEI is to foster and encourage the continued safe use and development of nuclear energy to meet the nation's energy, environmental and economic goals. In addition, the NEI supports the nuclear energy industry by encouraging educational institutions to promote education in nuclear energy disciplines.
The NEI's Nuclear Uniform Curriculum Program (NUCP) was developed to quantify the need for nuclear plant workers, define industry approved curriculum, and implement the right number of programs. The intent is that graduates could be waived or exempted from portions of required initial training. An agreement between Exelon and Bismarck State College will allow Nuclear Power Technology students an opportunity to substitute their education for training once employed in a nuclear plant. This type of industry partnership will help provide the next generation of highly skilled workers for the nuclear industry.
Certificate
Students who successfully complete specific curriculum within the BSC Nuclear Power Technology program will receive a National Academy for Nuclear Training Certificate. The certificate states that the student has successfully completed nuclear fundamental training objectives and allows certified students to bypass duplicate fundamental training topics once employed in a nuclear facility. Students who begin the Nuclear Power Technology Program at BSC in the fall of 2011 will be eligible to receive the certificate upon successful completion of this program in 2013.
Students are required to earn an 80% for each of the specified courses below in all assignments, quizzes, exams, discussions and/or other work required in all Nuclear Power Technology program courses.
