Jordan Miller

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side just ask Jordan Miller.  Jordan had done some entry level work for Pike Electric for five months before leaving the company and taking a job in a different industry.  He was laid off shortly thereafter, and knew right then and there he wanted to come back and establish a career in energy industry.  “You live and you learn,” Jordan reflects.  “I thought a degree would give me a leg up as I try to get into the energy industry.

Jordan found out about EPCE on the internet.  He had never attended college, but knew that with a mortgage and working 50 to 60 hours per week that he couldn’t afford to take time off to sit in a classroom.  EPCE’s online programs were perfect.  He enrolled in BSC’s Electric Power Technology program.  “I’ve learned so much,” he says.  “I can now really see the big picture.  I understand how everything is hooked up and works together.”

Jordan would like to be a Line Mechanic or work in a substation.  He has had several interviews already.  During one interview he began discussing his education to the interviewers.  “I was surprised that I did not have to explain anything about my school or the degree I earned,” Jordan recalls.  “They were all aware of the program and endorsed it.”  He was also being considered for another position that received over two hundred applications.  He credits his new degree for getting that far in the interview process.

Jordan is being very selective and wants to make the best possible decision.  “I don’t have a family so now is the perfect time to get the ideal job I want and then go from there.”  In the meantime, Jordan continues to further his education in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Management program with BSC.
