Twenty six years ago, Rick began working in power-related positions while serving in the US Navy. The past eight-years have been spent as a Control Room Operator for FPL. "My tenure and on-the-job experience have allowed me to excel at my work, but I always wanted to earn an industry-specific degree."
For many years, Rick thought about earning his degree. He held himself back for a myriad of reasons; being torn between investing in his children's education versus his own, managing time for family vacations and commitments, and simple ordinary procrastination. Then a co-worker suggested he investigate EPCE's online educational offerings. After researching the EPCE programs and FPL's tuition reimbursement policy, Rick enrolled.
According to Rick, the online format was terrific. "Online learning gave me the flexibility to study when my workload and family life allowed. Sometimes I'd ramp-up and complete assignments well in advance allowing us to travel. The incredible flexibility of the program definitely contributed to my success."
Now that he's earned his degree, Rick feels a great sense of accomplishment. "I don't think I really need a degree for job security but if corporate changes take place, my degree will allow me to compete."
Rick intends to continue his educational endeavors. "I am interested in the Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology offered through EPCE and Excelsior College. The degree includes courses in instrumentation and controls which are very interesting to me. One thing I know for sure, this time I'm not going to put it off. I will start in the Fall."
